The lake is starting to get it's annual algae blooms in some areas. Most of the fish we are catching seem to be post spawned fish and most are in the 2 1/2 lb to 4lb range with a five or six pounder caught every once in awhile. I have not been fishing the South end arms of the lake to explore if the fish are now holding on the deeper ledges, drop off's and rock piles. I am sure they can be found there and this will become even more of a factor as the fish finish the spawn cycle and the water temps get even hotter. Currently we are starting out in the morning around 68 degrees and moving up into the low 70's for afternoon water temps during the hotter days. Typically for me I find the bite to steadily improve as we move deeper into June and the majority of the fish start to feed up from the rigors of the spawn. If your coming to Clear Lake, bring all you got and try it all, this is the time as we move into summer that almost anything your throw has a chance to get you a nice fish. That's it for now, God Bless, Bob
The North West end of the lake has gotten a lot of weed growth and will continue to get more and more as the lake level drops and the weeds expand further out into the lake. I am still working all the spawning areas, coves, bays, etc. The fish are scattered at this time of the year, some have spawned and are holding out in deeper water, some are spawning still and are up more in the shallows and some have still yet to move up to spawn. Working the weed lines and open areas with a wacky rigged or texas rigged senko is producing fish. I also use drop shot worms and baby brush hogs rigged either weedless or open hook around the weed lines and in the open pockets between the weeds. The topwater baits have not kicked in for me as of yet. My trips are mostly morning trips and the topwater bite can be better later in the afternoons and evenings as the water temps warm up.
