7/5/2012 Lake Conditions/Fishing Report

The fishing has settled in to it's normal summer time pattern.  The upper end, (West end) of the lake has it's normal vast amount of weeds that the bass can hide in making it harder to get a bait in front of them.  You have to try and find the open areas and distinct weed lines and work your baits through those.  Wacky rigged senko's and texas rigged drop shot worms worked in the open pockets and long the weed lines are effective.  Senko's and jigs worked under docks are also picking up fish. The fish are feeding on crawdads so your darker color's in purples and red's are working.  The crankbait bite has also picked up and if you can find areas to work them around points, tule edges and above the tops of the weeds you can have success.
For those of you who have the patience and the stamina to throw topwater baits such as a frog, spook, poppers and various styles of wakebaits and cover water all day long, you can also put some fish in the boat.   These past couple of weeks, most of my customers are averaging anywhere from 7 to 15 fish for their trips.  Depending upon the skill level we have worked all of the above and also have had success punching and flipping in the heavy weed cover using full size brush hogs and sweet beavers
I have not been working South but this is the time you will find fish holding on the deeper water ledges and breaks and on the rockpiles.  Jig's, darthead worms, drop shot, flick shake worms, shakey head  jigs with six inch worms are all the usual stuff to try in these areas.  In a nutshell there is a whole variety of batis, techniques, that will work, that's the beauty part of fishing Clear Lake.   The main key is you have to be versatile with your baits and your presentations and you have to move around and cover a lot of water to have any reasonable success.    The colors I continue to stay with are,  watermeon candy six inch worms,  robo's salt river craw & Folkstead special,  senko's in green pumpkin and watermelon with black flake, (912) Brush hogs in green pumpkin and sweet beavers in the big texan color.   According to my records the lake is fishing with about the same results as the past couple of years.  That's it for now, feel free to email me at anytime for any info needed and pointers.  Thanks' & God Bless,  Bob Myskey
